The Retinal Thickness Analyzer (RTA) is an advanced
diagnostic instrument that analyzes a cross section of the retinal nerve
fiber layer, creating 2D and 3D maps. This aids in our ability to diagnose
glaucoma and macular degeneration conditions in the very earliest stage of
these diseases.

Many people mistakenly believe that the air puff test is the complete test
for glaucoma. This is simply not true. Almost half of the glaucoma cases
in the United States cannot be detected with pressure tests. More advanced
instruments are necessary for the early detection of glaucoma.
Eagle Vision & Eye Clinic’s new instrument,
the RTA (Retinal Thickness Analyzer), is a high-tech ophthalmic diagnostic
instrument that assists doctors in the early diagnosis of glaucoma and
diabetic retinopathy, two of the leading causes of blindness in the United
States. It can also assist in the diagnosis of other diseases and eye problems
like age related macular degeneration and macular holes.
The RTA exam lasts between 3 to 9 minutes. It is painless, comfortable
and non-invasive. Another benefit for patients are the exam reports which
are printed immediately after the exam, making it easy to detect and track
the progression of the disease and the effectiveness of treatment.
The RTA measures the thickness of the retina (the tissue in the back of
the eye) in order to detect and track early signs of Glaucoma, Diabetic Macular
Edema and Age-Related Macular Degeneration. Conventional tests are often
inconclusive, difficult and time consuming, or they detect the diseases after
damage has already occurred.
New technology, like the RTA, may save eyesight by providing
the doctor more advanced diagnostic tools for the early detection of eye diseases.
The RTA, is now available for the first time at Eagle Vision & Eye Clinic.
